This road is northwest of Markington heading for the road to Fountains Abbey, it has been closed by North Yorkshire highways due to water across the road in one part just after the Yorkshire riding centre. This hazard is extremely slippy as several cyclists have been hospitalised after coming off here it’s on a straight stretch of the road and looks ok to ride through please don’t try to because until it’s fixed it’s lethal as I found out a few weeks ago and too ended up in hospital.
Although the road is now supposed to be closed I’ve heard that the closed signs have been pushed down by motorists and are still using it illegally if you do go through please don’t Attempt to ride through the water.
I’ve reported it again that the road closed signs have been pushed over.

Yes, this crash was indeed at the same spot as Ian's. That makes four hospitalisations that I know about - at least three of which involved serious injuries - and I've been told that there have been numerous other crashes. "Road Closed" signs have been put up (and from time to time, knocked down) at both ends of the road, but we all know what all we cyclists do when a country lane is signed as closed: we assume it's minor road works that will prevent cars passing but we'll almost certainly be able to at least walk past. In this case, nobody who doesn't already know about the hazard will spot it until too late. PLEASE, DON'T TRY CYCLING ALONG THIS ROAD.
