Received from York Cycle Campaign: The section of Sustrans Route 65 / TPT along North St will be CLOSED during the working day from Mon - Fri from Nov 4th -15th for resurfacing work across its full width (up to the junction with Tanner Row where the stone paving starts). Diversion will be via Tanner Row and busier roads such as Rougier St /Micklegate.
YCC representatives have met with officers prior to this resurfacing work to discuss the 'quick wins' that officers have indicated can be achieved at minimal extra cost through changes to the highway lining after the work is completed.
We SUPPORT the proposed changes to lining, which will remove conflict points of the existing narrow bike lane being blocked by deliveries (see picture) which will be removed to provide stronger reminder of the route being a strategic cycle route, through the use of Bike logos (as used on the city centre bridges). The advanced stop box at the lights will be remarked and the central line beyond the junction not replaced, to reflect the narrowness of the road and low speed (20mph) nature of the area. It is important to note that while the resurfacing will be very welcome (!) for cyclists, it is foremost a highway maintenance project not an 'active travel' one, and only replacement lining is being adjusted to be more appropriately indicate cycle priority, encouraging riders to avoid riding close to parked cars, police vans and delivery vehicles. Please contact York Cycle Campaign if you have an questions or concerns.
