Group 1a our rides :-
To cater for intermediate speed riders. If you're comfortable riding for the day at around 12-14mph then you'll fit in fine.
We aim for an average speed at the end of each ride of between upper 12's and mid 13's mph. (So sometimes we will be going faster than 14mph.)
All our rides have a designated leader who will bring the ride back together after climbs, difficult road junctions, punctures and so on. WE NEVER LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND.
Our ride lengths are:
Oct-March 60 to 70 miles
April - September 80 to 100+miles
We try to offer some Early Bird Rides leaving York at 08.30 and car shared remote starts to venture and explore further afield.
We are touring cyclists so we try to put together a programme of challenging and interesting routes to include points of interest or a ride theme and will often stop to explore a new feature. In the last 12 months we've visited at least 8 castles, several ancient churches, a medieval village, Roman remains, a number of battlefields, completed several classic cycle climbs and looked at some pre-historic rocks, lumps and bumps. Occasionally we include a few miles of track (rideable on 25mm tyres) to add interest.
In summer we usually have a quick elevenses coffee stop at a Cafe for approx. 30mins.
For lunch we ask 1a riders to bring a packed lunch and drinks/flask. The stop is usually about 30-45mins. We don't always have access to a cafe for lunch. There may be an opportunity for a cuppa if the weather is particularly inclement.
On shorter winter days (after clocks change) an elevenses stop is at leaders discretion, we may stop for a quick carryout coffee. (The weekly leaders note on the Rides Forum will say.)
A Plotaroute link will be provided for each ride giving access to details of the route.
